Macallan ist ein Juwel der Speyside und wurde vom verstorbenen Michael Jackson mit dem Prestigeauto Rolls Royce verglichen. Diese oben abgebildete Abfüllung durfte in einem für Macallan bis dahin typischen Sherryfass für mindestens 18 Jahre reifen und wurde 1998 in Flaschen abgefüllt. Heute sind die sherrytönigen 18jährigen Jahrgangsabfüllungen bei Sammlern und Investoren äusserst begehrt, da Macallan diese Serie nicht mehr weiterführt und zudem vermehrt in ehemaligen Bourbonfässern gelagerter Single Malt abfüllt.
1. Stufe - Destillerie
Die Destillerie ist ohne Zweifel ein Schwergewicht in der Industrie, zumal sie über eine Jahreskapazität von 6´000´000 Litern verfügt und damit hinter Glenfiddich, aber vor Glen Grant und Glenlivet die Nummer zwei ist. Die Nummer eins hingegen ist Macallan in Sachen Marktwert und -fähigkeit.
2. Stufe - Abfüller
Die Abfüllung wurde direkt von der Destillerie mit 43% Vol. vorgenommen. Es besteht der begründete Verdacht, dass der Single Malt kaltfiltriert und allenfalls karamellisiert wurde.
3. Stufe - Spezielle Eigenschaften der Abfüllung
Die Abfüllung ist heute nur noch schwer erhältlich. Dazu beigetragen hat Macallan mit der Aufgabe der 18jährigen Jahrgangsabfüllungen aus ehemaligen Oloroso Sherryfässern.

Meine Bewertung ergibt 35 Punkte für die Destillerie-Abfüllung von Macallan.
Verkostungsnotizen
Nase: mächtig, mit leichtem Torf.
Gaumen: Wunderbar abgerundet und vollständig, komplex, nussig-süsser Sherry.
Abgang: Fester, geschmeidiger, trockener, warmer Abgang.

Macallan is a jewel of the Speyside and was compared to the most prestigious car by the one and only Michael Jackson. Since then, Macallan is always referred to as the Rolls Royce of Single Malts. This example of Macallan rested for at least 18 years in an earlier Oloroso sherry cask and was bottled in 1998. Today, the sherry cask bottlings are well appreciated by both, collectors and investors.
1. Level- Distillery
Macallan is a big player in the whisky industry, as its annual capacity reaches 6´000´000 Liter. The company ranks second to Glenfiddich and before Glen Grant and Glenlivet in terms of capacity. When it comes to Brand recognition and marketing capability nothing compares to Macallan (Thanks Sinead O´Connor).
2. Level- Bottler
This bottling has been done by Macallan itself at 43% Vol. Unlike bottlings from independent bottlers, one cannot rule out the possibility of chill filtration and the addition of caramell to the Single Malt.
3. Level- Special characteristics of the bottling
Such bottlings are hard to find, especially since Macallan decided to stop producing 18 year old vintage versions of sherry casks.
Rating
Out of the evaluation results a rating of 35 points.
Tasting notes
Nose: overwhelming complex with slight peat.
Palate: well balanced and complex, taste of nutted sherry.
Finish: Strong, smooth, dry and warm.
